Our physicians are Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and hold positions as fellows in the American College of Surgeons. Our doctors have each completed their surgical ophthalmology residency, as well as additional extensive fellowship training in the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Michael Borne, M.D.

Dr. Michael Borne, a proud native of Oxford, Mississippi, earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi. He then went on to graduate Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and further enhanced his skills through internship training in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Borne’s dedication to his field continued as he completed residency training in Ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was selected to serve as chief resident. He went on to complete a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Wills Eye Hospital.

With a passion for advancing the field, Dr. Borne has contributed to the scientific community through the authorship of numerous research publications and textbook chapters.

Joel Herring, M.D.

Dr. Joel Herring, hailing from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, holds a Bachelor of Science from Mississippi State University. He further advanced his education by completing his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

To sharpen his skills in vitreoretinal surgery, Dr. Herring completed his fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Additionally, he has made notable contributions to the field through his participation in various research publications in conjunction with the esteemed Helen Keller Foundation for Research and Education.

Jay Brown, M.D.

Dr. Jay Brown, a Bay Springs, Mississippi native, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Mississippi. He then went on to complete his medical degree and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where he was honored with an Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology.

To further his expertise, Dr. Brown completed his retina fellowship at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Bryan Propes, M.D.

Dr. Bryan Propes, originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University.  He obtained his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine before entering the US Navy, where he completed internship and Ophthalmology residency at Naval Medical Center, San Diego. Following residency training, Dr. Propes ventured to Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Wilmer Eye Institute to complete a Fellowship in Medical and Surgical retina before returning to active Naval service.  

With over two decades of dedicated practice in Ophthalmology, Dr. Propes brings extensive knowledge and expertise in retinal diseases to our practice. We are confident that his exceptional skills will further enhance the quality of care provided to our patients.
