Our DOCTORS
Michael Borne
Dr. Michael Borne, a native of Oxford, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi. He graduated cum laude from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He completed his residency training in ophthalmology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was chosen as chief resident. Dr. Borne completed two years of fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Wills Eye Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Joel Herring
Dr. Joel Herring, a native of Hattiesburg, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University. He completed his medical degree and ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. His fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery was completed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Herring is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Jay Brown
Dr. Jay Brown is committed to excellence in ophthalmology and providing top-tier care to our patients at Mississippi Retina Associates. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi before pursuing his medical degree and completing his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Brown's dedication to ongoing education and training ensures that our patients receive the highest quality care available.
Bryan Propes
Dr. Bryan Propes is a highly skilled retina surgeon with a distinguished career in both medicine and military service. He grew up in North Louisiana, and pursued his undergraduate studies at Baylor University, where he excelled academically and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He went on to earn his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine, laying the foundation for a future in ophthalmology. Dr. Propes completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego. Dr. Propes further advanced his training with a fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Wilmer Eye Institute, where he specialized in retinal diseases and surgeries. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he also served as Chief Resident, demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise in the field. A former Captain in the United States Navy, Dr. Propes served with distinction, including as the Chief Medical Officer on USS Denver. His military career earned him multiple unit and campaign awards, as well as personal honors such as the Meritorious Service Medal, in recognition of his exceptional service and leadership. Today, Dr. Propes continues to be recognized for his exceptional skills as a retina surgeon, combining his extensive medical training with a deep commitment to service and excellence. As a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Propes is a board certified Ophthalmologist.
